Gargoyle Goodness

Whoever invented gargoyles, well, what a genius!

Doubling as drainpipes as often as not, these little guys are also intended to ward off evil spirits, or maybe give them an escape route if they're being chased from within.

Whatever, the marvellously morbid imagination of these medieval maestros is limitless.

Each creature has its own devilish expression, and you often have to remind yourself whose side they are supposed to be on, so gruesome are their (mis)demeanours. Is there some sort of double message going on here?

So cast your gaze up as you wander the Paris streets, particularly when you're in the vicinity of a ghoulish gothic church. And pray you're on the right side of those fearsome little fellows.
